007 w/ Sean Connery

Here is a short summary of the Sean Connery 007 Movies

1962 Dr. No
Sean Connery first says the famous line "Bond, James Bond" at the Baccarat Table before flying off to Jamaica. This movie introduced and hooked us on a love for exotic places, women and villains. Honey Ryder was the first infamous Bond Girl. Dr. No and his metallic hands, minions and evil plot set the tone for many villains of the 007 future. And we all learned how to put pillows under blankets to let others think we were fast asleep. From experience this rarely works in the real world. But then again giant spiders are not really poisonous and yet this movie is one of many why I am terrified of anything with eight hairy legs.
BOND - Sean Connery
BOND GIRL - Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress)
VILLAIN - Dr No (Joseph Wiseman)
MAIN ALLY - FELIX - Jack Lord
MONEY PENNY - Lois Maxwell
M - Bernard Lee
Q - Peter Burton
MUSICAL THEME - The original :JAMES BOND THEME" written by Monty Norman; Performed by John Barry & Orchestra
BOND TOYS -  .32 Walther PPK (replacing the sissy Beretta 418),  Geiger Counter, Self Destructor Bag, Rolex Submariner,

1963 From Russia With Love
SMERSH (acronym for Spetsyalnye MEtody Razoblacheniya SHpyonov meaning Special Methods of
Spy Detection) always seemed less scary than S.P.E.C.T.R.E. More like the parody version you might find in Austin Powers decades later. Funnier, SMERSH actually existed in Russia in the 1940s. KGB sounds better, no? But put SMERSH against S.P.E.C.T.R.E.... well lets just say you never want to be #2. Ever watch  the History Channel's "Cities of the Underworld?" Well we get a great look at the underbelly of Turkey.

We start to learn of SPECTRE's (can you deal w/o the periods - I can) extensive network of spies and maniacal scientist and megalomaniacs. #1 (Later called Blofeld) puts #3 (Ex SMERSH and one of two inspirations for Frau Farbissina in Austin Powers) in charge. #3 / Klebb sends Tatiano Romanova, followed by Donald "Red"Grant.

SPECTRE is playing SMERSH against MI6. Red Grant kills a Russion Driver. Russia bombs Station T in retaliation... etc etc etc Eventually Bond, w/ Ali Kerim Bey (Turkey Station Chief ) meet up with Romanova and a stolen Lektor (Soviet cryptographic device) and escape the back and forth revenge plots on the Orient Express. Grant attacks, kills Bey, almost kills Bond, but trusty exploding brief case from Q allows Bond to get the upper hand.

Bond & Romanova escape to Venice, where Romanova saves Bond by shooting Klebb dressed as the hotel maid.

BOND - Sean Connery
BOND GIRL -Tatiano Romanova (Daniela Bianchi) Voiced over by Barbara Jefford

BLOFELD (#1) - Anthony Dawson (Petting Cat) & Eric Pohlman (Voice)
MAIN ALLY - Ali Kerim Bey
MONEY PENNY - Lois Maxwell
M - Bernard Lee
Q - Desmond Llewelyn
MUSICAL THEME - "From Russia With Love" by Lional Bart (Bway fans perk up) Sung by Matt Monro. John Barry compsed score based on original Bond Theme - adding that famous THE BOMB IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE music that always proceeds the classic surf guitar licks.
BOND TOYS - Exploding Brief Case of Nerve Gas (Disguised as Talcum powder, AR-7 Survival Rifle, Bug Detector, Camera with hidden audio recorded, pager, radio phone in car,

1964 Goldfinger

This is probably my favorite Bond movie of all time. From the BOND CAR, iconic theme, amazing cast etc etc etc this movie is flawless and it is this movie that guaranteed us a life of Bond that seems endless...
FIRST PRE-CREDIT ACTION SEQUENCE
FIRST MAJOR BOND GADGETS / FIRST Q-BRANCH SCENE
FIRST MAJOR POP HIT BOND THEME
FIRST to truly inspire spoofs and knock offs....
FIRST LAZAR to almost cut Bond in half "I expect you to die Mr Bond!"

007 is on the trail of Auric Goldfinger. After catching Goldfinger cheating at the card table, Bond follows to  Switzerland where we see the first ever BOND CAR. Bond is captured and brought to Kentucky - NO not to be tortured by BlueGrass and Moonshine...

Bond meets and hears the most famous Bond Girl name - Pussy Galore - "OF COURSE YOU ARE!" Still wonder how that made it pass the censors of 1964 LOL

In the US Goldfinger assembles the top Mafia Made Men to break in and rob Fort Knox. Captured, Bond seduces and convinces Ms Galore to get word to the Americans. They break in, the Calvary arrives, kills odd job and saves the day. Trying a last ditch revenge effort, Goldfinger fails to hijack Bond's plane and gets sucked out the window. Decompression really sucks...

BOND - Sean Connery
BOND GIRL - Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman)
MAIN VILLAIN - Goldfinger (Gert Frobe)
PRIMARY HENCHMAN Oddjob (Harold Sakata) and his famous deadly hat
MAIN ALLY - FELIX - Cec Linder
MONEY PENNY - Lois Maxwell
M - Bernard Lee
Q - Desmond Llewelyn
THEME MUSIC - CLASSIC SCORE/SONG by John Barry sung by Shirley Bassey
BOND TOYS - Astin Martin DB5 - THE ORIGINAL BOND CAR w/hubcap slashers, ejector seat, bulletproof shield, Machine Gun, Smoke & Oil Slicks - Inspiration for Spy Hunter!!! Dry Tuxedo in dry wet suit, homing beacon, Exploding Attache Case (AGAIN!), Signature Rolex,

1965 Thunderball
Movie open with possibly the funniest of all PreSequence scenes as SPECTRE #6 attends his own funeral in drag (as his own widow). Men in dresses make funny action sequences if you ask me... Might be my least fave of the Sean Connery 7. But unlike most I love the underwater sequences...

On forced vacation (by M) at health clinic , Bond stumbles onto SPECTRE operatives having Angelo (SPECTRE henchman) transformed via plastic surgery to become Francois Derval, French Pilot for NATO. Angelo - as Derval - hijacks a plane (Avro Vulcan) equipped with Nukes.

In the Bahamas, Angelo lands plane on water. Emilio Largo (#2), kills Angelo (trying extort more money) and recoups the bombs and hides plane. Most of the rest of the film as Bond with Felix and crew looking for plane & bombs, while trying to avoid SPECTRE henchman, fast driving killer woman, Mardi Gras type parade and sharks.

Climax features famous underwater battles of CIA Calvary and Largo's team. Complete with harpoon guns, knives, underwater submarine tanks and more.

Largo nearly escapes in his hyper speed boat that ejects from larger yacht (I always watch this and expect to see the scene where Bond & Bond Girls are dragged over coral reef - but that is years later with Roger Moore). Bond sneaks on board, Domino kills Largo, and they both jump off just in time before boat explodes into island chain.... Bond and Domino are flown away by tow line this time.

BOND - Sean Connery
BOND GIRL - Domino Derval
MAIN VILLAIN - Emilio Largo AKA #2 (Adolfo Celi) Voice Dubbed by Robert Rietty (This seems to happen a lot in Bond Films WTF?) - OH AND Kevin McClory - producer that made it hard for us at times to get even more Bond. (Just to see who is really reading and paying attention LOL)
PRIMARY HENCHMAN Fiona Volpe  (Luciana Paluzzi)  & Vargas (Philip Locke) who is killed way to easy considering he gives up "alcohol, smoking and sexual intercourse" to focus on being a killer
BLOFELD (#1) - Anthony Dawson (Petting Cat) & Eric Pohlman (Voice)
MAIN ALLY - FELIX - Rick Van Nutter
MONEY PENNY - Lois Maxwell
M - Bernard Lee
Q - Desmond Llewelyn
THEME MUSIC -  Music by John Barry; Additional Lyrics Don Black; by sung by Tom Jones - not unusual at all if you ask me
BOND TOYS - Rocket Belt, Astin Martin in Opening Sequence now with Water guns, Underwater Camera / Geiger Counter, Under Water breather, Suped up jet pack Scuba tank w/spear gun etc, sky hook, distress beacon, flare gun... Homing Pill, Book with hidden audio recorder,

1967 You Only Live Twice
Another of my top 007 faves, this movie is full of action - Starting with James Bond faking his own death and buried at sea... And teaming up with my favorite Bond ally - Tiger Tanaka. Of course script by Roald Dahl had no Chocolate, Peaches or Foxes. Many complain but I love all the cool gadgets including Autogyro attack copter...

Cold war tension is at its height when both American and Soviet space craft disappear. Bond travels to Japan to find the infamous Ernst Stavro Blofeld himself. Until now we have only seen his cat petting and maniacal order giving skills.

Teaming up with Tiger Tanaka, the Japanese secret service leader who assures 007 Japan is not behind the hijackings, Bond investigates Osato Chemicals. Mr Osato orders Helga Brandt to kill Bond. Bond escapes. Aki is killed as they discover Osato's roll in securing rocket fuel. After Bond escapes, Blofeld kills Helga in pool of Piranha.

Bond now pairs up with Kissy Suzuki. Disguised as a Japanese Man (Not to convincingly if you ask me) Bond pretends to marry Kissy. They discover a secret rocket base in the Volcano (possibly the most parodied set of Bond history) housing BIRD ONE. While Kissy alerts Tiger, bond attepmts to sneak onto Bird One. Blofeld captures 007.

With US/USSR On the brink of nuclear war, BIRD ONE closes in on another American Space Craft. Tanakas ninjas attack the mountain. Bond is able to get the hatch open. Ninjas battle Blofeld's private army. Blofeld kills Osata before escaping. Bond fights and kills Hans. (Eat German Henchman perform great with most evil deeds but never quite get the job done wen it comes to 007). Bond hits self destruct button on BIRD ONE. Blofeld activates the base's self destruct button but all get out in time.

BOND - Sean Connery
BOND GIRL - Aki (Akiko Wakabayasi), Kissy Suzuki (Mie Hama)
MAIN VILLAIN - BLOFELD (#1) - Donald Pleasence (first time we see is face)
PRIMARY HENCHMAN: Hans (Ronald Rich), Mr Osato (Teru Shimada), Helga Brandt (Karin Dor),
MAIN ALLY:Tiger Tanaka (Tetsuro Tamba)
MONEY PENNY - Lois Maxwell
M - Bernard Lee
Q - Desmond Llewelyn
THEME MUSIC -  Music by John Barry; Additional Lyrics Leslie Bricusse; by sung by Nancy Sinatra Oe of my faves for sure!!!)
BOND TOYS - LITTLE NELLIE - AUTOGYRO - Mini Helicopter with lots of ammo. Ninja stuff, Cigarette Gun, Safe Cracker,

1971 Diamonds are Forever
This movie is totally ridiculous. But every time I want to call it my least fave of the SC 7, I realize the ridiculousness as a certain charm.

The opening sequence has Bond fighting and killing Blofeld Clones. Blofeld drowns boiling in hot mud.
Mr Wint & Mr Kidd are sadistically campy.
Willard Whyte is a bit 2 - dimensional as Howard Hughes type reclusive tycoon (Played by Jimmy Dean)
Turns out Blofeld survived and is pretending to be Willard Whyte, using a device to change his voice.
Blofel uses diamonds for a "LASAR" satelite that destroys Nukes in China, USSR and US. Auction is open to highest bidder.
Final Battle on Oil rig used as Blofeld's base.
Not done yet Witt & Kidd fail to kill Bond in the final scene and die trying.

I enjoy this movie bt it feels more like EON's answer to Casino Royale Spoof.

BOND - Sean Connery
BOND GIRL - Tiffany Case (Jill St John)
MAIN VILLAIN - BLOFELD (#1) - Charles Grey
PRIMARY HENCHMAN: Mr Wint (Bruce Glover) & Mr Kidd (Putter Smith),Bert Saxby (Bruce Cabot)
MAIN ALLY - Felix Leiter (Norman Burton)
MONEY PENNY - Lois Maxwell
M - Bernard Lee
Q - Desmond Llewelyn
THEME MUSIC - Music by Jon Barry, Sung by Shirley Bassey
BOND TOYS - Fake Fingertips/prints, Suction cups to scale wall of casino, Grappling Gun, Gambling Ring (Slots Jackpot guaranteed), Grappling Suspenders, Water Sphere,

1983 Never Say Never Again
Remember Thunderball? Pretty Much same movie. I recently caught second half of Thunderball and thought of this movie's first half...

But as I remember I like this movie better. Bond is once again at health clinic, semi retired. This time, Domino's brother (Domino Derval is now Domino Petachi) is coerced into helping SPECTRE rather than replaced by double. He is given a fake eye to resemble US President to gain access to replace practice bombs with real nukes. They steal the nukes and hold ransom for billions.

Remember that classic scene where Bond pretends to be masseuse?

How about comic relief form Rowan Atkinson as Nigel Small-Fawcett (A penis joke I think)

Fiona Volpe is replaced by Fatima Blush, as the femme fatal. Kills Jack Petachi, captures Bond, demanding he write her as his #1 in bed in his memoirs, gets killed by pen gun.
Emilio Largo is replaced with Maximilian Largo. 3D World Domination Game is pretty cool and a bit ahead of its time.

Bond chases Largo to Bahamas, Nice, North Africa and finally to the TEARS OF ALLA. Calvary once again engages in shoot them out battle with SPECTRE. This time under Oasis instead of under water. Well until Bond fights with Largo.

Domino once again kills Largo. Bond and Domino return to Bahamas. Bye Bye Sean Connery as James Bond.... SINGLE TEAR...

BOND - Sean Connery
BOND GIRL - Domino (Kim Bassinger)
MAIN VILLAIN - Maximillian Largo (Klaus Maria Brandauer)
PRIMARY HENCHMAN: Fatima Blush (Barbara Carrera)
BLOFELD (#1) - Max Von Sydow
MAIN ALLY: Felix Leiter (Bernie Casey)
MONEY PENNY - Pamela Salem
M - Edward Fox
Q - Alec McCowen
THEME MUSIC - Music by Michael Legrand, Lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Performed by Lani Hall.

Justice League: Doom - Movie Trailer, Review and more

Justice League: Doom Watch on Amazon

MUST SEE - NOW - GO - WATCH

I love this animated feature by DC Universe. While not officially a Bruce Timm produced feature, this one keeps with the Justice League Unlimited style and even features Timm as the voice of Ace.

This is the ultimate Legion of Doom. By far the best. I like not having Lex Luthor as the head as it decentralizes JLA as just an extension of Superman.

On paper, upon seeing a script, I would probably say this movie tries to do WAY TO MUCH and should be a series or trilogy. BUT The director deliver a perfectly action AND story packed movie with a surprise hero at the end, followed by banishment of another...

I don't know of another project that can handle so many heroes and villains in one sitting. Now perhaps if you are not a DCU geek such as I you you may need some back story. But I love this movie trusts we know who most of these characters are going in... (We really don't need an origin story every time - note to Live action movie producers) This movie works for me on so many levels....

At some point I might try to rate each movie favorite / MUST SEE to 0... But I am so much an in the moment kind of guy. Writing this review I really want to watch it again. Being an impulsive kind of guy, I think I will....

Theatrical Trailer

FUNNY STORY - when I first started to right this blog post, in my head I was imagining the Justice League Episode "HERE AFTER"  where Superman, missing and presumed dead, ends up 30,000 years in the future finding a Vandal Savage now remorseful and willing to help him home. MAYBE NOT SO FUNNY but the episode is one of the best of all TV superhero arcs of all time as well...

Here is a clip I found online....

American Hustle - The Great Con of 2013

I still have not decided whether this u movie is simply overrated or bad. I went in expecting a great movie. Instead I got overacting drama, less than funny writing, and a movie that takes itself way to serious at the wrong times.

David O'Russell you are no Scorsese.... So here is what I wrote on Facebook the day after I saw the film... This should have been another great classic. After talking to dozens of folks, including fellow actors, this movie is going to die away after award season....

Great acting is a series of choices. Great film directing is showing the the results of those choices. Film students like to get artsy fartsy and show those choices. Film makers learned long ago that does not work.

Just to be clear, individual performances in this movie were amazing.... But the film should be thrown in the toilet, get the cast together and do this on Broadway. Or re edit without director's head up his ass.... I get so angry when great talent is poorly served by ego directors... Especially when that director feels the need to put down Hunger Games.... Sorry David, this maybe one of the few site call your steaming pile of crap as I see it, but the chatter outside of the kiss ass crowd of reviewers is on my side here....

Most times I would give this a higher rating but because of the extreme overrating of this movie, I am over compensating the other way....

1943 Batman Serial

IMDB
Batman is a 15-chapter serial, released in 1943 by Columbia Pictures. The serial starred Lewis Wilson as Batman and Douglas Croft as Robin. J. Carrol Naish played the villain, an original character named Dr. Daka. Rounding out the cast were Shirley Patterson as Linda Page (Bruce Wayne's love interest), and William Austin as Alfred the butler. The plot involved Batman—as a U.S. government agent—attempting to defeat the Japanese agent Dr. Daka, at the height of World War II.
The film is notable for being the first filmed appearance of Batman, and for debuting story details that became permanent parts of the Batmanmythos. It introduced "The Bat's Cave", and its secret entrance through agrandfather clock inside Wayne Manor. Both departures subsequently appeared in the comics. The serial also changed the course of how Alfred Pennyworth's physical appearance would be depicted in later Batmanworks. At the time it was released in theaters, Alfred was overweight in Batman comics. After William Austin's portrayal in these chapter plays, subsequent issues of the comics portrayed him as Austin had: trim, and sporting a thin mustache. The serial was commercially successful, and spawned another, Batman and Robin, in 1949. It was re-released in 1965. The re-released version, called An Evening with Batman and Robin, proved very popular, and its success inspired the intentionally campy Batmantelevision series (and its 1966 theatrical feature film spin-off) starring Adam West and Burt Ward.

Plot

Batman and Robin struggle against Dr. Daka, a Japanese scientist and agent of Hirohito who has invented a device that turns people into pseudo-zombies, and has a base in a Funhouse of horrors, in a Japanese area of the city. Daka makes several attempts to defeat the Dynamic Duo before finally falling to his death when Robin hits the wrong switch, opening a trapdoor to a pit of crocodiles.

Superman Vs The Elite Review and Video Preview

                                                      Superman vs. The Elite

I am not too sure about this one. It may be my least favorite of the DC Universe Animated offerings. The Elite is a band of young - yet very powerful - superheroes that are a little reckless for Superman's style. Maybe because they're British?

I think this would have been a great 22-minute episode for a TV series. OR The arc for a season. I think many times a feature length movie based on a literary source, even a graphic novel or comic book, often lacks from trying to adopt numerous sub plots into a 80-120 minute feature. A 22-minute short can focus on the main points, removing sub plots in favor of a primary set up and ultimate battle sequence. A mini series, or even better the new 6-12 episode arc of Cable TV shows (And a few networks falling in line) can deal with each of the minor characters.

I feel like the feature introduced a lot. International Politics, Role of Superheroes today, Blurred Lines of Justice, and so much more... Perhaps too much.

Give this subject s 6 60-minute arc on cable TV OR a Full season on Cartoon Network etc and you could flesh out the characters. Otherwise, it almost feels like one of those movies that ran out of money, and had to wrap up big ideas to quickly.

The other problem, I think it becomes very hard to like Manchester Black. We love anti heroes and villains like Walter White and Tony Soprano. I think if you make Black more likable - OR Love to hate - this would have worked better. There is a quick moment where you get why he is so hard around the edges, but the character voice acting and animation does not draw you in like so many have done so much better before...

KIDS SIZE - NOT FOR ME

Superman vs. The Elite is an animated superhero film based on "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?," the story published in thecomic book Action Comics #775 (March 2001). The movie was adapted and written by Joe Kelly, who wrote the comic it was based on, and is directed by Michael Chang. It was released on June 12, 2012.[1] The film also featured the return of George Newbern as Superman, and David Kaufman as Jimmy Olsen, reprising their roles from the DC animated universe.[2] It is the 14th film in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line.

Additional video fan put together to show off Superman's power. But maybe you can see why I don't like this one... The whole Superman Character is just a little off...

1974 Wonder Woman TV Movie / Pilot AND 1967 Mini Pilot

OK, I just had to comment LOL

Doing some research I stumbled across this (COUGH) gem which can be seen on YOUTUBE.

Cathy Lee Crosby starred in this fiasco. As with so many TV versions fo Superhero TV shows on a budget, we have way too much talking created by second rate writers. No need to waste too much time on a Pilot never picked up to a series. You can tell in the first few seconds why the Linda Carter version is remembered in its stead...

Basically this 74 minute pilot can be summed up this way. Wonder Woman and another Amazon fight with the worst stick fight of on camera history over a burro. What an ass wrote this? And by stick fight, it almost feels like a parody movie of a pillow fight. No stunt doubles required in this "film".

"WHY GEORGE" WHY GEORGE INDEED?

While on the subject of failed ideas, if you have not seen this terrible idea for a 19060 Batman style comic adaptation, you really must see for yourself....
SHORT REVIEW this 5-minute "PILOT" is more of bad off-Broadway play trying to squeeze in every bad Jewish Mother joke....

Justice League: War Animated Feature Direct to Video from DC Comics

Just watched this on Amazon.com

There is a lot of controversy. Mostly from the Comic Book types, which I am not. I am an avid DC movie/TV/animation fan. LOVE the Bruce Timm years mostly like most of us do. This one is different. It does seem a little disappointing after the awesome FLASHPOINT PARADOX....

So I feel like I am on a role. I recently reviewed a series of films that have turned old material into grown up fair. And I keep coming back to the same theme. The film world - in this case the animated feature world - has finally caught up to the comic book world changed by Frank Miller and others that turned the old BLACK & WHITE world of good & bad and playing the various levels of grey.

This also seems to try and turn JLA into the Avengers. While I did not love this at first, I figure if you are going to do the origin story AGAIN lets do something fresh. Rather than a team brought together for the common good (Originally by Martian Man Hunter), this team is more reluctantly forced into co-operating by the situation. Ego and insecurity get in the way of great team work. In the end the fact that they win is almost by happen chance. This feature does not get quite as dark as other new world Superhero Offerings, but I think it has a nice mix of the new and old styles. Imagine if Frank Miller directed 1970s Superfriends - the one with the Scooby Doo knock offs, not the Wonder Twins...

This is far from being my favorite of the DC animated feature series. But I was thoroughly entertained.

I really like Shazam - so we are no longer calling him Captain Marvel right LOL Voiced by RUDY - I mean Sean Astin, the character really came alive. This character always seems so dumb. But was always one of my favorite. Back in the 4th grade I had a dream about stumbling into a scientist's lab and become a superhero. I think in many ways this is most of our dreams' until we discover girls, right?

Also I loved the CYBORG (Shemar Moore - Criminal Minds) origin story, which I had not seen before.

Dark Seid has obviously been juicing. Never seen him so big before LOL. The previous appearance Superman/Batman: Apocalypse was far better.

I think you have to judge each of the DC presentations based on the target audience. Arguably this offering was geared towards a younger audience, minus a few choice words that totally otherwise ruin this argument. The animation and voice direction is definitely better for younger crowds.

There are a lot of DC Movies head to video this year. - maybe making up for keep us waiting so long for another Superman / Batman installment. Looking forward to Son of Batman and

ROBOCOP 2014 Review and Preview Video

So I grew up in the 70s and 80s. By 1990s I was into my 20s. Before 1990 everything was black & white. We were the good guys. USSR the bad. In movies it was very clear who was good & evil. I was a Superman fan geek from day one. Because of this I resisted the quickly growing darker side of comics that focused on the grey areas...

Graffic Novels like THE WATCHMEN were way ahead of its time in the 1980s. I Suppose it makes sense Frank Miller was involved in later versions of ROBOCOP that have abviously influenced the most recent adaptation - even thought Mr Miller's name is found noweher on this movie officially.

This movie is great!!! Not just as a SciFi geek. The writing, direction and performance is perfect. If for nothing else to see Samuel L. Jackson basically play Glenn Beck. The obviously far right wing voal arm of NRA and Big Business (The Far Right Religeous aspect left out LOL)... And - SPOILER ALERT - break out of character at the end when the character gets mad and SLJ crys out his famous line from so many movies (MINUS SNAKES & PLANE) I was on the floor...

So when I first saw this preview, I thought, OH CRAP, here they go ruining another childhood fave... Mostly because ROBOCOP 1987 was not a great film. It was a good fun flick. Perfect for POPCORN. And the sequels were terrible attempts to make money on the name.

BUT THEN last week I saw a preview showing Joel Kinnaman. OK YOU GOT ME!!! On TV promos I did not recognize him at all. Have you seen THE KILLING on AMC? Joel Kinnaman costars with Mireille Enos. Or if you are like me you bulk watched on NETFLIX. Love this guy. Enos is the star but the edgy Kinnaman is as funny and hard core real as the drug addict cop. The perfect undercover guy.

Probably the funniest part of the movie is Samuel L Jackson. In my mind this was a hilarous parody on Glenn Beck. SLJ's character is clearly bought by big business and NRA type interests. He is the modern TV version of Beck or Limbaugh - Yell enough and enough ignorant folks will follow and listen. Sorry just got too political, but that is the point.

This movie is a modern Superhero Movie, where good & bad are not black & white - And I just don't mean SLJ impersonating Glenn Beck LOL. The bad guys are big business, but they truly have safety for all as a goal. While they may cut corners, they want to deliver for the money the rake in by the ocean full. Amerca has become the ulitmate police state with the rest of the world living in fear of robotic police. But the big argument, shown at the congressional level, why not use this as home?

So ROBOCOP is the way to get robots on US streets.

Every character, no matter how noble or innocent, has a selfishly motivated moment. Even when ROBOCOP goes after his own killers, there is more personal revenge plot driving the machine and less noble justice goals.

ROBOCOPS failures in many ways happen because the "GOOD" doctor from OCP - played by Gary Oldman - makes descisions to save his and OCP ass to make ROBOCOP seem perfect for a short time - which leads to bad results.

At the end of this story, however, the old school BLACK AND WHITE ending redeems those that rose above and chose to be GOOD to redeem their failures.

As always I love Michael Keaton as the bad guy. I met MK as a romantic comedy goof ball type. But he was great as the sadistic neighbor in Pacific Heights. This character is a likeable exec. More of a Bill Gates than a Lex Luthor. Really not until the end do you see this guy will cross the line for selfish gain. The rest of the movie you can identify with his descisions as long as you are not OWS type...

BUT My favorite part of the movie? Jackie Earle Haley!!!

What is it about this guy? Again this guy was the brooding hitter form 1970's Bad News Bears. But now everytime he shows up he is the biggest smallest bad ass of all time... He cracks me up. .And the more straight he plays the tough guy the funnier it is. And to his credit, not trying to make fun of the guy. I really wish HUMAN TARGET on FOX was better because JEH rocked. (The show sucked)

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

Seriously I think I am by far not the only die hard fan of blue tights and red cape that were ready to throw in the towel after Superman Returns. For decades I was sick of fellow geeks making fun of us that were loyal to THE original super hero of modern times. The one that started it all. Those of us that were kids when Superman 1977 hit the screen with Christopher Reeves when reruns of Adam West were the best Batman had to offer. Marvel was sucking wind on TV and movies except for THE HULK with Bill Bixby as David Banner, because BRUCE was too gay? (Not my words - I wa always confused why Dr. Banner was called Bruce in cartoons and comics)...  AND we suffered through TV's attempt to make Superman more chick friendly (Lois & Clark) or Teen Age worthy (Smallville) all of which I watched religiously out of love for the character, while despising what was being done...

Well I for one believe we were rewarded for holding out. Better than ever before, Superman was rebooted for "today" without over thinking or over pandering to a certain demographic. They just made a movie that rocks. A movie Superman die-hards can call our own. A movie that had just enough story to warrant 2+ hours and millions of dollars invested, but still crammed in all the action of the animated films and shorts and graphic novels...

Henry Cavill nailed the character. Too many interpret the fish out of water quality of Krypton's Last Son being isolated on Earth as wimpy. Cavill wonderfully portrays awkward outcast that is not necessarily a two dimensional geek. His Superman matched teh Charisma of Reeves. Being even more chiseled in the chin, etc Cavill may have even surpassed. Although, first seeing Reeves in Red 7 Blue at age five, he will always be my perfect image...

LOVE Michael Shannon as Zod. The Kyptonians were bad ass and true warriors. Zod was the perfect "bad guy" for today's age. The villian of the story, he is the hero of his own goals till the end. Warped by power, to him, his passion and drive for power is selfless as the ulitmate goal is the survival of his people. For Zod, he is a European that lost to the Native American People trying conquest the United States.

A lot of people hate the way Lois knows too much, right. But I remember a very funny moment in Lois & Clark when Tempus (Played by Lane Davies - basically Chronos) says to Lois (Not exact quote) How stupid can you be. Than he puts a pair of glasses to his face.... Really. I think many have enjoyed the Superman from animated films that clearly is known by Lois, intimately. I love the new idea that there are many out there that know the truth and protect it as they had been saved by Clark. Superman IS Clark. And Lois would never have rested until she found that out. The cute wink wink joke of the 1950's series had been played out. Women today are equal to men or even superior - especially if you ask Wonder Woman. I love the new story from head to toe.

I am very upset that the next movie has been pushed back a year. But we are definitely headed towards JLA the MOVIE!!!
